2024/2025 Yoga Teacher Training

Letter of Intent

Desert Power Yoga was founded with the intention of providing wellness classes to all, regardless of a student’s experience. We offer a variety of yoga styles as a means of providing yoga to fit the community’s diverse preferences. The school’s lineage is based primarily on Vinyasa Yoga.

The Yoga Teacher Training program will focus on building a well-rounded understanding of different styles of yoga, including: Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hatha, Restorative, and Heated Yoga. The training will encourage students to have a strong grasp on the Hindu roots of yoga. Students will learn about Hinduism, Hindi deities, and Hinduism’s relationship to yoga. Most importantly, students will learn how to honor yoga’s roots without culturally appropriating the practice. We believe that a firm understanding to yoga’s roots is critical to each instructor and student. It is impossible to truly share knowledge of yoga without a deep grasp of its roots in the Indus Valley. Additionally, students will learn about the Buddha, his teachings, and the practice of Buddhism in everyday life. Buddhism and yoga are strongly related, as they both encourage a consistent mindfulness practice. Desert Power Yoga Yoga’s teacher training will also place emphasis on anatomy and proper alignment. Whether a student has a goal of instructing, or doing the training personal reasons, knowledge of the human body is essential. Professional ethics will be discussed in depth so that future instructors and practitioners alike will know how to conduct a yoga class properly and safely.

Students who complete a 200-hour yoga teacher training through Desert Power Yoga will leave the program feeling confident in their ability to continue their yoga path as a lifelong student of yoga. Each student will complete the training with a 200 Hour-YTT, Yoga Alliance Approved certification. This training will be led by Courtney Reese, Crystal Bunch and Sam Metzner,

Warmly,

Courtney Reese, Owner, Lead Trainer

Anti-Harassment Policy

We do not permit harassment in our classroom or studios. Harassment is unwelcome verbal or non- verbal conduct that denigrates or shows hostility or aversion toward the person and has the purpose or effect of creating an environment that a reasonable person would consider intimidating, hostile, or abusive. Harassment includes epithets, slurs, name calling, negative stereotyping, insults, intimidation, ridicule, threatening, intimidating or hostile acts, denigrating jokes, and display in the workplace of written or graphic material that denigrates or shows hostility or aversion toward an individual or group. Petty slights, annoyances, and isolated minor incidents may not rise to the level of harassment.

Sexual Harassment Policy

We do not tolerate sexual harassment in our classroom or studios. Sexual harassment refers to any unwelcome sexual attention, sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature when:

• Submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis for decisions affecting such individual, such as performance review;

  • The advances have already been explicitly declined;

  • Such conduct has the purpose or effect of creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment.
    Examples of sexual harassment include unwanted and unnecessary physical contact; offensive remarks (including unwelcome comments about appearance); obscene jokes or other inappropriate use of sexually offensive language; and unwelcome sexual advances.
